Let me tell you an expensive tale.

Last April, on my bro's birthday, we had dinner at C's, a steak & seafood restaurant at Grand Hyatt Hotel, Jakarta.
The bread (don't know the name, it looks like pita bread, but much much yummier) along with the dipping sauce (looks like salsa, but a lot more spicy) that they served as free appetizer while waiting was very VERY good! Yum! We asked for one more..

Now, what did we order?

Since I don't really like steak, of course I prefer seafood. I wanted to try each of the seafood without paying too much, so here goes for 500,000 rupiahs (US$ 55):

A combination of seafood (salmon, prawns, lobster, mussels) and sirloin steak.
Of course I needed help finishing it. It might look average, but in reality the plate is soooo big!

Now what did my bro order?
Here's a custom in my family. If it's your birthday, then you can choose whatever you want. And of course, most of us see this as an opportunity to choose the best food (after all, it's only once a year!). And the best translates to: very pricey, sometimes the most expensive.
So here goes the very expensive (although it doesn't really justify the price) entree that my bro chose:

It's Kobe beef, baby! Priced at 1,900,000 rupiahs (US$ 211). Sluurrrrpp :9
Again, in reality, the steak is SO big! I wonder how my bro could finish it O_O
Oh, I love the side veggies in that Kobe beef and also on my entree.

The total bill? Almost 5,000,000 rupiahs (around US$ 555).
Only once a year ^_~

That price tag makes my head spin!

I'm a big fan of finding new and yummy places to eat, but I think I'm too trained in finding tiny, hole-in-the-wall restaurants that serve amazing food but are super duper cheap. Most of these, for me, have been tiny Asian restaurants owned by families. :3

I wish there were more tiny-but-very-authentic Asian restaurants owned by families here in Jkt. Almost all restaurants here are commercialized -_-

I did find a few treasures in State College, Pennsylvania, where I spent 4 years of university back in the States. The ones you can't forget forever.... I wish the city were more accessible, so I can easily visit again the next time I happen to go there. But it's so deep in the middle of nowhere, that going there will take hours and $$$ *sniffs*

"There are those relationships that open you up to something new and exotic, those that are old and familiar, those that bring up lots of questions, those that bring you somewhere unexpected, those that bring you far from where you started, and those that bring you back. But the most exciting, challenging and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself. And if you can find someone to love the you you love, well, that's just fabulous..."
