On Going Out...
May. 4th, 2003 11:08 pmBack in the US (in big cities, mainly), I used to like going out (to eat at a restaurant, go shopping, or just plain to hang out) on Saturday instead of Sunday. It's because the people there are very relaxed, it makes the atmosphere friendly and easygoing. It's in the lifestyle that makes a difference. The places can be as crowded as possible, but I'm still very comfortable and can enjoy the atmosphere to the slightest bit. On Sunday, however, the situation tends to get quiet; too quiet for my liking. And most importantly, the places close very early compared to on weekdays or Saturday. So I rarely hang out on Sunday, except going to church or friend's house.
Here in Jakarta, I try to avoid going out on Saturday, especially to crowded places such as restaurants, cafes, movie theaters, shopping areas, etc. Usually I like to go out with my mom and/or brother (to church, eat at not-so-crowded restaurants) or sometimes hang out with my friends (karaoke, dining, shopping, or just walking/sitting around & chatting). In doing all those, I try hard to avoid crowded places.
I like going to fancy restaurants or trying out new cafes on Sunday. The people are more relaxed (on Saturday, the young teens and almost everyone else all go out to shopping malls, movie theaters, and fancy cafes/restaurants. Mostly to show off. Of course, the streets are packed. Trafficjam everywhere. That's why I don't like going out on Saturday). On Sunday, the atmosphere is very subtle, the roads are almost empty (I have no idea where those Saturday socialites do on Sunday), and the people are more friendly (or is it only my imagination?).
